The arrival of the Alba White truffle (tuber magnatum pico) is one of the most important times of year in the culinary calendar. Its high status as the ultimate luxury food is not unfounded as it offers an impeccable scent and flavour, incomparable to any other truffle variety.
These truffles come from the Piedmont region of Italy and are famous for a strong aroma, delicious taste, and aphrodisiac qualities.
For centuries people have travelled from near and far just to savour a little piece.
From October until December the white truffle is harvested from its the hills of the Langhe south of Alba and from the Monferrato.
Our truffle dogs , Kain & Oscar are in training to find ripe truffles here in the UK, so hopefully by next season we can offer some Scottish truffles.
